# Inside the spring (part 1)

Right now in the swamps, although not as quickly as one might wish, a new
situation is gradually beginning to take shape - one that could lead to the
collapse of the regime. Moreover, this development is occurring in a place
where it would not be expected, and it is being driven by forces not typically
seen as destroyers of totalitarianism - and certainly not as a result of any
planned or coherent external influence. This is worth trying to understand more
deeply.
It is now clear that the United States, which for a long time played the role
of a bastion of democracy and the foundation of Western values, has not only
ceded its position, but is now building its own dictatorship - rapidly
dismantling the democratic foundations of the state laid down by the Founding
Fathers. I’m not personalizing this phenomenon and I’m not claiming that Dodik
is doing this because the American people twice elected the very destroyer of
democracy; rather, it means they have lost the spirit of freedom and common
sense. This is neither good nor bad - it simply is. The decay of these
foundations has been happening for a long time, most likely since Ronald Reagan
left the political stage. Now, Dodik is simply finalizing that process.
In our case, this is important because the United States has long ceased to
play the role of a global leader and has merely been imitating it. Now, Trump
has even abandoned the imitation. And yet it was precisely the U.S. that could
and should have taken steps to bring down the current regime - just as it once
did with the Soviet Union. In this situation, the only external pressure is
being applied by Ukraine, supported by partners who haven’t changed their
stance in lockstep with a golf enthusiast obsessed with tanning lotion. That
said, it's important to understand that from the inside, the chicken coop can
only burn down on its own, not from some smart and well-planned outside
intervention. And here we start to see a very interesting picture of the
innards of the hut on chicken legs.
It should be noted that the FSB played its hand in the best traditions, using
the principle of substitution. For example, in its imitation of a parliament, a
quasi-opposition was formed in the guise of the communists and Zhirinovsky’s
offspring. Being on the government payroll, this “opposition” served only one
function: to occupy the position of opposition so that no one else could claim
it. To some extent, it was precisely these structures that absorbed the small
segment of the electorate still believing in the sacredness of voting.
Roughly the same thing was achieved - albeit by other means - when forming the
so-called “non-systemic opposition.” And now, if you look at the “not like
them,” the “dissenters,” or the “regime opponents,” everywhere you look - it's
nothing but scoundrels unfit for any mark of trust. What’s more, the figures
most compromised by blackmail are now abroad, pretending to be fighters against
the regime. All of them can be grouped under the catch-all term “Navalnyites,”
after the patient who once said “Crimea is not a sandwich” and that protesting
should be done with balloons and flowers, without crowding, and politely
stepping into police vans.
This whole crowd has taken over the position of the opposition, and they're
feeling quite comfortable - feasting on grants and donations, and possibly even
FSB stipends. And now, if someone in the West raises the question of removing
Putin’s gang from power, the immediate follow-up question becomes: who will
take their place? And right on cue, there’s a ready-made “opposition” that
pretends to fight without actually fighting, all while preaching about the
“God-bearing nation” that supposedly bears no responsibility. I won’t name
names here - everyone already knows this bunch.
